Vasai Fort and Beach

Vasai Fort, also known as the Bassein Fort, is located on the Vasai road in the suburbs of North Mumbai and distance from from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is 73 km. Vasai was known as a place for ship building in the 15th Century. Bahadur Shah, a Mughal Emperor had built the Bassein Fort in the 1530s. The fort has developed around 110 acre. The Portuguese conquered and destroyed most of the fort a year after it was built. The fort, overlooks the confluence of the Ulhas River and one of the top places to visit in Mumbai.

In the 18th century, the fort was raided and overtaken by the Maratha army under Chimaji Appa. They stood strong for 3 long years, and then the British took over the fort in the First Anglo-Maratha War.Many Bollywood movies shooting has been done here like Khamoshi, Josh and Ram Gopal Verma ki Aag.

Vasai Fort is situated near to the Bassein Beach in Mumbai and can be reach here by air, rail and road.From Mumbai you can take taxis and the MTDC buses that travel from the various parts of Mumbai to reach Vasai and takes only about half 1-2 hour.
If are travelling by train then Vasai is nearest station,whci is well connected by Churchgate, Dadar and Andheri by boarding Dahanu or Virar local trains. From Vasai station rickshaws or buses can be availed to reach the fort.
